Being a counselor is about learning skills, developing character and making friends while leading peers to do the same. But few environments are as special as Blue Ridge Leaders’ School, where teens become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group as they engage in physical, social and educational activities. Leaders’ School teaches self-reliance, an appreciation of healthy living and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership. Blue Ridge Leaders’ School counselors are dedicated to making sure BRLS is an amazing experience for every teen.

The 4 step process of becoming a counselor for the 2017 school is underway. It began months ago on the mountain with an application submitted by each counselor hopeful. Then each teen was evaluated by current staff to assess their participation, attitude, leadership skills, and character. This feedback has been evaluated. Next, all advisors will have the opportunity to evaluate their work with the home club.

Counselors have an important job on the mountain and we are dedicated to finding the best teens to fill that critical roll. Below is a list of the approximate dates for upcoming Counselor announcements:

1/15* Email sent to advisors for Counselor Candidate.
1/31* Advisor feedback due.
2/15* Email with update and basic information on the process.
4/15* Counselor acceptance letter.

Happy Holidays,
