Hi! My name is Lara Zambrano Bastidas and I’m from the Northwest YMCA in Tampa, Florida. I currently go to school at the University of Central Florida studying biology. I hope to work with animals in some capacity once I graduate and possibly go to veterinary school. I love going out to have new experiences and try new foods with my friends and overall I just enjoy learning more about the people and world around me.

What is your favorite BRLS story, memory, or experience?

My favorite BRLS experience by far has to be when I hiked High Windy my third year. I went on that hike with a friend I had just met on the mountain and whom I had not spoken to too much before this. The experience really bonded us and the satisfaction of completing that hike is something I will never forget.

What is your favorite Leaders’ Club story, memory, or experience?

My favorite Leaders’ Club memory is a culmination of all of our end of year celebrations. It’s a time where we get to reflect on our time together as a club and celebrate each other for what we’ve accomplished.

What are you most looking forward to for BRLS this year?

I am most looking forward to getting to learn from all the first years while teaching classes. Getting to see the mountain for a 7th year through the eyes of 1st years is really exciting.

If you could give your 1st year self one piece of advice, what would it be?

I would tell my 1st year self to take some time to really listen during vespers, and maybe even to write some thoughts down after.

Tell us a fun fact about anything!!

I have a pet cat named Nami and a pet guinea pig named Chuleta (that’s pork chop in Spanish).
