As summer is wrapping up, the Leaders’ Club work is getting ready to reload for the year ahead. Many of you are juggling the final weeks of camp, the first weeks of afterschool programs, have fall sports starting as well as the final days of the summer swimming season. With that in mind, we’ve provided a few reminder items requiring minimal time that can set the foundation for a successful year.

  • Reach out to the summer campers; LITs that are of leaders’ club age and their parents for Leaders’ Club nominations.
  • With your executive director’s approval request nominations from your board of managers. This will garner attention to the program as well as increase the volunteer’s buy in.
  • If you have not done so already, put together a summary of the Leaders’ Club accomplishments; hours served, programs impacted, participants served and share this information with your YMCA leadership enabling them to share your YMCA’s impact with donors.
  • Depending on your club’s schedule, hold executive board nominations and elections for the upcoming school year. Once elected, an executive retreat is a good way to start off the year.
  • Have conversations with fellow directors (sports/aquatics/membership) gaining their support to create volunteer roles within their areas. Then create and schedule trainings for program areas where the Leaders’ Club will be volunteering this fall.

The intent of this section will be to share time-tested tips to ensure the best possible back-home experience for the leaders. We also hope to create a common language for all the clubs that attend BRLS along with Movement-wide best practices.
